Building Information Modeling
Team members from South Coast Engineering Group have been on Autodesk’s beta testing team since the first 3D building construction software specific to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades was released. Our experience today includes Building Systems, Revit, NavisWorks, and many trade specific software titles. However, Building Information Management is much more than just three dimensional drawing. It can include the cataloging of materials, manufacturers, model numbers, load calculations, set points, operating statistics, and maintenance logs. Using our experience gained from working with design build contractors, South Coast Engineering Group has the in depth knowledge needed to take drawings from diagrammatic construction documents, to detailed, collision-free shop drawings. As BIM evolves, look for us up ahead!
-
Generating and managing building data during its life cycle.
-
Using three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction.
-
Encompassing building geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, and properties of building components.
Siphonic Roof
Drainage
A Siphonic Roof Drain System is about half the size of a conventional system. The advantages include a material cost savings, a labor cost savings, concealed pipes with reduced or even eliminated wall furring and a savings of square footage. These systems are also installed with level horizontal pipes (no slope). This allows for greater ceiling heights, lower overall building heights, reduced coordination conflicts, minimized pipe bracing and additional labor cost savings. The system has no moving parts, uses virtually any pipe material and requires only a specialized drain that incorporates a baffle over the drain body. Overall, the system provides a reduced water depth on the roof and higher self-scouring velocities.
Notable projects include:
-
Census Bureau Headquarters Office, Suitland, MD (1.5 million sf)
-
Chrysler Body Shop, Sterling Heights, MI (1.0 million sf)
-
General Motors Assembly & Body Shop, Lansing, MI (1.5 million sf)
-
LAX Consolidated Rental Car Facility, Los Angeles, CA (1 million sf)
-
Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA (0.6 million sf)
-
Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, Tesla Battery Plant, Parks, NV (2.4 million sf)
-
Thurgood Marshall Courthouse (historic high rise), New York, NY.
Sustainable
Design
With a growing number of LEED Accredited Professionals experienced in hundreds of green buildings, South Coast Engineering Group is focused on sustainability. Not just a marketing catch phrase, but a practice since our inception, we strive to make engineering decisions based on the overall impact to the building, its utilities, and its occupants. Each building, regardless of any rating sought, is analyzed for environmental impact, energy efficiency and human health and comfort.
Energy efficiency for any project should be maximized over the anticipated lifetime of the equipment, but once again, more needs to be done. Understanding that our local and national infrastructure can be preserved through onsite renewable energy our clients are trending towards solar water heating, photovoltaic power, geothermal heat transfer, thermal energy storage, and natural ventilation.
