In 2014, Universal Studios Hollywood decided to expand Universal Boulevard (the street at the front of the theme park, where visitors must enter). Previously, the street was outdated, and dotted with lackluster shops.
The Universal Boulevard Expansion included a large, continuous merchandise store, and of course, a Starbucks. The merchandise store has multiple themed entrances, one side being Harry Potter themed, and the other side being all-things Universal. Mezzanine offices were concealed behind the public spaces.
Within the structure and behind the retail stores, SCEG designed the Walking Dead attraction, a year-round haunted house in the park. In addition to heating, ventilating and cooling, SCEG designed water, gas and compressed air systems serving the special effects.
